Newsvine Vinemeet 2011 Recap - From Scorch the Dragon's Perspective

Hi everyone. Scorch here. For those of you that don’t know, I am a dragon, YES a dragon. Impressive, I know. However, I am not like the other dragons you may have come across. I am a friendly dragon and small. (How small is he? He is so small that he can fit in a purse. But don’t confuse him with one of those toy dogs that celebraties like to carry around because even though he is small, he can breathe fire.)

I had an awesome time at the vinemeet. I got to meet new people and make some dragon friends. Yeaa! There were other dragons there as well. My owners GoodBen and Sydney – 5 brought me because if I tried to fly there on my own it would have taken me several days, maybe even months.

When we arrived, we were greeted by Tyler, who drove us from the airport. Then later we met Dowser and the gang. While the rest of the people talked, I was over at the dragon table watching it all, and getting to know the other dragons, like Dowser’s Lung Shui and Augur’s Lung Shen. We had some pretty interesting conversations. Here’s just an example:

Scorch: Hi, Lung Shui

Scorch: Hi, Lung Shen

As you can see, we dragons are quite the conversationalists.

Anyway, I had a great time at the Vinemeet and got to see lots of fun things. I loved the track, and Dowser says I am probably the first dragon to visit Churchill Downs. I also got to go to a few restaurants, although not one of them had Fair Maiden on their menus, so I had to settle for people food. (Let me tell you, getting Sydney-5 to give up even one French fry was like trying to find a unicorn at the race track. I looked really hard and I didn’t see one.) I stayed behind for a few things, like the ghost walk. (Too scary for a little dragon like me.)

Hi, Dowser,

Scorch is napping in his cave right now. Apparently, he's not used to this heat, which is kinda surprising for someone who can breathe fire. Anyway, he hasn't stopped chattering about the VineMeet since we got back. And he sure loves driving that car. I think the trip was just what he needed. :)

EGADS, who is used to this heat? We are melting!

It is so hot out, our candle melted in its glass on the picnic table... and for the past couple of days, it has been unbearable! The humidity is awful!

We're supposed to have thunderstorms, and I'm hoping, frankly, that we will, if only to cover that branding iron in the sky known as the sun!

I'll bet it's hotter than blue blazes in Louisville. It was 103 in Lake George last I looked. LG is quite a ways north of here in the Adirondacks. It never gets hot like that up there. They even cancelled the monthly paint ball game up there for tomorrow. And those guys love their paint ball.

96 here right now. Whew!

I see they broke a record in Newark (NJ) yesterday with 106. Not the record for the day but the record for ever. 106 is the hottest it's ever gotten there in recorded history.

I've been reading about the record heat wave up there, and y'all have my deepest sympathy. It was 99o here yesterday, over by Columbus Belmont state park, which is where we were...

Today, I think it only got up to 95, which is better, sort of. We're all miserable!!!

95 here yesterday too. We're not used to this at all. Boo hiss!

108 yesterday in Newark!!! Probably didn't feel any worse than the 106 there the day before, but still.... Sure wouldn't want to fly outa that airport right now. (Actually, I never want to fly out of Newark, but that's a whole other story. :)

Oh, its been sooooo hot!!! too hot to eat much, or to do much! It is supposed to rain here, but hasn't yet, even though they keep predicting it. Maybe that would help, some...

LOL!!!

We're back home and the air conditioning is working, thank HEAVEN. It got a bit warm, in spots, in the camper. We keep the bathroom door closed, just because leaving it open blocks the cool air from the bunk room... not bad, until to you in to take a bath or whatever. Then, egad! Steamy! :-)

To bad a Vine Meet wasn't on the west coast. Here in the California High Desert we've been enduring a cold snap. Temperatures have been down to the chilly 90's during the day, and a near freezing 65 at night. We've been bundling up.

Everytime I think about how fun it might be to live in AZ or NM, I remember how hot the temps run there. Yikes. Must take some real getting used to.

A terrific article and experience, Scorch! Lung Shen has been gabbing about the trip too, even tho she constantly reminds me with a puff every time, that "some barbarian" left her in the hotel room much too often! But she talks about meeting all the other dragons, and she's not saying a word about what they all talked about! *grin*! She loves your car too! *grin*!

Thanks, it's good to be the only dragon on newsvine. :D Also be sure to be on the look out for my video of me and my new door prize. I need to light a fire under GoodBen, so that he'll get up and post the video lol. Also he needs to feed me.

Cute, cute story! I'm glad the dragons got to meet and become friends, as well as the viners. That vinemeet sounds like it was so much fun! Maybe I can go to one, one of these days. I'm thinking the one in New Mexico, if it goes off well in the planning. :-)
