DVDs & DVD Players are great inventions. You can play movies on then, but not just movies. You can see special features on them like how a movie was made and also things that are too big to put on a regular video cassette. DVD’s also let you play music on them. And some DVD players let you play games. The New playstation 2 is a DVD player and Video game console.
DVD stands for Digital Versatile Disc. A DVD is like a CD only its better. It’s a lot like a CD. It looks like a CD, and it’s the same size, but it holds a lot more information. A DVD can hold a whole movie, a soundtrack, special information about the movie, interviews with the actors and director, and even subtitles in other languages. That’s a whole lot more
information than a CD can hold. It holds about 15 times more information than a CD, and it can transfer that information much faster to a computer then a CD-Rom. DVD’s are about 20 times faster than CD’s.
They both are on a standard discs and both have an indentations that funs around them like a spiral. Their information is stored
on the indentation. They both use a laser beam to read their information. The DVD’s indentation is narrowed then the CD’s. The laser beam that the DVD uses is shorter than the CD’s. this lets the DVD store more data than a CD.
DVD’s players look a little like VCR’s. You cam stock the DVD into the front of a DVD player just like you can stick a CD-ROM into the
front of a computer. There are lots of printed circuits inside the DVD player just like there are inside a computer. The printed circuits tell the DVD player how to work.
DVDs and DVD players are new inventions. The first DVD player was sold in 1997. That was only four years ago. It was developed by
SONY, Phillips, and other companies. Ever since then, millions of DVDs and DVD players have been sold.
People really like DVDs. This is because DVDs are a good invention. People can use them to play movies and listen to their old CD’s.
DVDs give better graphics and better sound than other inventions like video cassettes and CDs. DVDs also hold more information than cds and VHS tapes. This lets you see and hear special features with movies. DVDs also let you skip to your favorite parts of a movie without fast-forwarding or rewinding like you have to do with a VCR. DVDs have chapters. This is also easier to use. DVD players let you play your old CDs so you can listen to your favorite music without buying new things. DVDs last longer than video cassettes. When you play VHS tapes over and over again, they start to wear out. After a while, the picture gets snowy. This doesn’t happen with DVDs.
DVDs are such a good invention that some people think that soon they will be the number one way to see movies at home. They might even replace other things like CD-ROMS, Laser discs, audio CDs, VHS tapes, and video cartridges. This is a good idea because DVDs are advanced technology. They take up less space than VHS tapes. They let us store more information than other
technologies. This is good because you can get more out of your discs this way. You can do special things with the DVDs that you couldn’t do with the other inventions. You can be entertained better by them. You can learn more from them. You can help the environment with them because if you use DVDs you won’t need to throw as many old disk or video tapes away. This is better for the environment. You won’t have as many old disks or tapes in landfills. It also is good for the environment because you use fewer resources to make dvd’s.
